130 Artworks Featured in the 15th Annual CVG Juried Show

Despite the very real challenges of the corona virus epidemic, 327 artists from cities and towns throughout the state entered the 15th Annual State Wide Juried Art Show, submitting 607 artworks for consideration. With so many artists applying, competition was very stiff. Juror Margaret Bullock had the difficult job of choosing a limited number of pieces for inclusion in the show from the many very fine artworks submitted. Artists entered work in three large categories: Two-Dimensional Art, Three-Dimensional Art, and Photo/Digital Art.
The artwork this year shows great diversity and will be an engaging exhibition that reflects the complexity of contemporary life.

Having whittled the selection down to 130 artworks, Bullock will choose the recipients of various cash awards from the actual artwork after it has been installed in the Gallery. These include the $1500 Best of Show and three $1000 Best of Category, three $500 second in category and three $250 third in category awards. Additional prizes are chosen by their sponsors and include a $1000 Best of Kitsap Award sponsored by the Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest, and over $2000 in purchase awards sponsored by local business and art collectors. Ten Honorable Mention Awards to be chosen by the Juror, were provided in the form of art store gift certificates by The Artist’s Edge in Silverdale. A $300 People’s Choice Award will be determined by the votes of attendees during the five-week run of the show.
This competition is one of the largest and most prestigious art competitions in the Northwest, with over $10,000 in cash and purchase awards. Just getting accepted into the show is an honor.
Show Juror Margaret Bullock is Chief Curator and Curator of Collections and Special Exhibitions at Tacoma Art Museum, Washington. She has a BA in Art History and English Literature from the University of Colorado, an MA in Anthropology from Washington State University, and an MA in Art History from the University of Oregon. Prior to joining the Tacoma Art Museum in 2007, she was curator at the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, New Mexico, Associate Curator of American Art at the Portland Art Museum, Oregon and a research fellow at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Alabama. She has curated exhibitions and written articles and books on American and European fine and decorative arts. Her specialty is late 19th and early 20th century American art with a particular focus on the art of the Pacific Northwest.
Co-Chairs, Alan Newberg and Cindy Duvall say, “The large number of entrants insured that this year’s juror had top quality artists from all over the state from which to make their selections. It also underscores the respect artists have for the high quality art the show is known to attract. Attendees and Collectors will find a museum quality show of work in a wide range of media and sizes including sculptures, paintings, fiber art, jewelry and photography and more.”

The 2022 CVG Show opens to the public Saturday, January 22nd from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm at the gallery, and continues during our regular business hours Wednesdays through Saturdays 11 am to 4 pm until Friday, February 25th.
